Technical Standard Evaluation Information

Purpose:
• Incentive for players to work throughout off-season on their individual technical execution.
• Document individual’s progress from one year to another.
• Set the tone of importance for future generations.
Process:
• Players get into groups of 4 of similar abilities
• Within group players find a partner
• Partners depend on each other throughout off-season to prepare for RHS Boys High School Soccer Program Tryouts
• Tryouts will consist of 10 activities designed to evaluate and standardize level of technical abilities.
• Each player has specifically 10 tries, no more, no less.
• Players are graded and placed in appropriate level according to abilities.
Grading System:
• Each activity (10) is worth 10 points
• Each player can have points ranging from 0 to 10
• Points are summed up
• Average is taken
• Total Percentage places player in appropriate level of competition
0% - 10% = Weak
11% - 20 = Below Average
21% - 30% = Average
31% - 40% = Good
41% - 50% = Very Good
51% + = Excellent
Set-up:
• 6 cones
• Create a rectangle 35 yards x 10 yards w/ middle cone at center along the lengths
• Players A and B stand outside along the widths of rectangle.

Activities:
(1) HEADING TO DEFEND
• Player A lofts ball from 30 yards to head of Player B.
• Player B heads the ball past 15 yard markings.
• Switch roles after 10 tries.
(2) TRAP / DRIVE
• Player A lofts ball to Player B.
• Player B traps once and returns a low drives ball back to Player A.
• Switch roles after 10 tries.
(3) TRAP / LOFT
• Player A lofts ball to Player B.
• Player B traps once and returns loft to Player A.
• Switch roles after 10 tries.
(4) TRAP/TURN
• Player A lofts to Player B.
• Player B traps once with chest and turns 180 degrees to settle ball.
• Switch roles after 10 tries.
(5) SHOOTING ON THE RUN
• Player travels with ball towards goal.
• Player shoots onto goal low at 30 yard markings.
• Ball must hit back of net before touching ground.
• Switch roles after 10 tries.
(6) SHOOTING FROM CROSS
• Player A lofts ball 5 times from corner to Player B.
• Player B strikes ball into goal.
• Switch roles from left and right sides.
(7) JUGGLING ON THE MOVE
• Player A juggles ball without dropping as he moves from one end to the other.
• Switch roles after 10 tries.
(8) JUGGLING WITH PARTNER
• Players A and B keep the ball in the air, one touch for 20 seconds
• 10 tries
(9) SHIELDING BALL
• Players A and B stand on 30 yard lines across from each other
• Ball is placed in the middle of grid
• On command players attempt to secure ball and shield it without interruption for 30 seconds.
• 10 tries
(10) PENETRATING WITH BALL
• Players A and B stand on 30 yard lines across from each other
• Ball is placed in the middle of grid
• On command players attempt to secure ball and penetrate over opponents line.
• 10 tries
